Convenors

Elizabeth (Betsy) Kristjansson is an Associate Professor in the School of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ottawa. She is a health measurement expert whose research focuses on the spatial dimensions of health and health inequalities, food insecurity, and health and social indicators. Another primary research interest is in interventions to reduce socio-economic inequalities in health. Professor Kristjansson is also interested in researching methods for detecting and understanding potentially biased items and in general psychometric work.

Kevin Pottie is Convenor of the Migrant Health Subgroup and Associate Professor of Family Medicine, and Epidemiology & Community Medicine at the University of Ottawa. He is Co-Chair of the Canadian Collaboration for Immigrant and Refugee Health and Founding Director of the Immigrant Health Clinic of Ottawa where he practices as a family physician.

Dr. Pottie is a Principal Scientist at the Institute of Population Health and the C.T Lamont Centre for Primary Care Research at the University of Ottawa. He completed his Medical Doctor degree at Dalhousie University, a Masters in Family Medicine at the University of Western Ontario, an AMS Senior Education Fellowship: ‘Medical Education in an Age of Pluralism’ and a Canadian Institutes of Interdisciplinary Health Research Fellowship. His current research program focused on developing evidence based guidelines for primary care practitioners for disadvantaged populations, with a special interest in HIV and Diabetes and migrant populations, and implication of low health literacy on health outcomes and effectiveness.

Peter Tugwell is Professor of Medicine, and Epidemiology and Community Medicine at the University of Ottawa and holds a Canada Research Chair in Health Equity. He is the Director for the Centre for Global Health which has a major focus upon interventions in the disadvantaged. Dr. Tugwell is co-director of a WHO Collaborating Centre for Health Technology Assessment that is oriented towards methodologic problems in needs-based technology assessment in lower and middle income countries (LMIC). Ongoing projects include national and international projects in defining and comparing the different strategies for knowledge translation of evidence with an emphasis on inequity in the consumer, the practitioner, and the policy maker.

Vivian Welch (formerly Robinson), MSc, PhD is the Deputy Director at the Centre for Global Health, University of Ottawa. Vivian's research interests include knowledge translation, systematic reviews, clinical practice guideline development, health economics, global health, and health equity. Vivian is a member of the international Grading Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) working group, the Cochrane Collaboration advisory committee on summaries of findings and the International Clinical Epidemiology Network (INCLEN).

Advisory Group

Mark Petticrew holds a Chair in Public Health Evaluation at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and is Director-Designate of the Public Health Research Consortium (http://www.york.ac.uk/phrc/). Current projects include research on the effects of health promotion interventions in disadvantaged areas of London; research on Knowledge Translation; systematic reviews in the fields of education, public health, housing, and employment; and the development of systematic review methods.

International Advisory Board

The Advisory Board serves as the central coordinating body and provides guidance on the Field's scope, review methods, sources of evidence funding, dissemination and related issues. Members advise on priorities and possible collaborations, monitor progress and liaise with other Cochrane and non-Cochrane organizations to promote the Field. Members also comment on draft documentation.
