Two day systematic review workshop 2015 (SR2015)

The KU Leuven Methodology of Educational Sciences Research Group organizes a multi-disciplinary workshop designed to provide faculty, PhD, doctoral students, editors, reviewers and other researchers in the area of Educational, Behavioral, Social Welfare and Healthcare sciences with the fundamental background and skills required to conduct a systematic review of qualitative or quantitavie evidence, evaluating the feasibility, appropriateness, meaningfulness of particular interventions or programs, inventorying the experiences of people involved in  treatments, interventions, or therapies or exploring the lived experience of people having a particular disability, disease or living in difficult circumstances. The workshop is organized in collaboration with the Cochrane Qualitative Research and Implementation Methods Group and the Belgian branch of the Dutch Cochrane Centre.

Evidence Synthesis of Qualitative Research in Europe (ESQUIRE) 2015

3 Day Course:  Monday 24th - Wednesday 26th August 2015

The course will follow the systematic review process as it applies, and is adapted to, qualitative evidence syntheses. The Programme Faculty will take participants through the stages of defining and exploring scope, conducting the literature searches, quality assessing studies for inclusion, synthesising data and writing up and presenting the product of the synthesis. Participants will be provided with practical experience of key stages in the review process. The course will conclude on the 4th September with an excellent overview of current developments in qualitative evidence synthesis. 

Course Participants

Who will benefit from the course ?

No formal experience is required, working knowledge of standard systematic review methods or a background in qualitative research methods will be an advantage but not essential.

  • Qualitative Researchers who want to learn how to synthesise qualitative research
  • Systematic Reviewers who want to learn how to translate synthesis methods to qualitative data
  • PhD Students in topic areas that require substantive review of qualitative research
  • New researchers who want to develop evidence synthesis/systematic review

Expected Outcomes

By the end of the programme participants will be able to:

  • Describe the main methods of evidence synthesis in terms of their strengths and weaknesses
  • Rehearse the stages of the systematic review process
  • Distinguish between aggregative and interpretive approaches to qualitative evidence synthesis
  • Describe the requirements for presenting and disseminating data

  • The course fee plus accommodation option includes two nights single accommodation with breakfast and lunch at the Halifax Hall Conference Centre plus one Evening Dinner at a local hotel or restaurant (venue tbc).

  • If you need further nights accommodation the night before the course starts, or the night the course finishes, you can book additional accommodation at a rate of £70 per additional night.
